During May and June, 2020, the Centre for Local Prosperity has virtually convened an invited group of delegates from across the region and internationally to act as Thinkers in the spirit of the Thinkers Lodge, Pugwash, NS to grapple with this issue.
Importantly, these Thinkers will seek to develop a resource guidebook for how communities in our region, and globally, can best prepare and manage through potential collapse. These deliberations will seek to apply the many large-scale global changes now underway to local readiness solutions that are applicable for Atlantic Canadian communities facing imminent disruptive changes.
Zoom conference discussion edited by Andrea Vandenboer with music by ColorFilmMusic. www.centreforlocalprosperity.ca www.localprosperity.ca www.twitter.com ProsperityLocal The Centre for Local Prosperity initiates conversations intended to encourage communities to begin a shift toward an economy that is properly scaled for the place. It is our hope that such a dialogue will result in real action for change by creating a new climate for change. The Centre for Local Prosperity takes pride in working alongside community groups, businesses and governments to identify opportunities and assess the risks in making the shift to a new economy.
We are prepared to hold workshops, conferences, and targeted discussions on topics as far ranging as local currency, climate-change, restorative business modeling, living wage, affordable and efficient housing, local energy production, food & community hubs, entrepreneurial start-ups, transportation, arts & culture and social and economic justice. Over time, the Centre envisions the crafting of a new narrative: a language that invites a balance between a culture of economic development and the preservation and restoration of natural systems. History demonstrates that vision without enlightened action is destined to lie fallow. Our hope is to discover an older grace and intelligence that binds us together in ways we could never have imagined. Once discovered it becomes the new social, economic and political narrative that restores the commons, elevates the notion of fairness, and sets a higher standard by which all progress is to be measured.

In the spirit of previous in-depth retreats at the Thinkers Lodge National Historic Site, the Centre for Local Prosperity is in the process of convening virtual discussions with international, regional and local thought leaders on topics that include: shifting the community narrative for adaptability and future agency; climate grief and spirituality as motivation for engagement and action; restorative food, power, built environment, local governance and local economics.
The topic today during the 'Pandemic and Climate Crisis, and the Uncertain Future of Local Community May 2020 Thinkers Retreat' will focus on 'We are all Climate Displaced Persons'.
Scott Leckie, the Founder and Director of Displacement Solutions (www.displacementsolutions.org) and also Oneness World Foundation (www.onenessworld.org) will be joining the discussion.
Scott is an international human rights lawyer, academic, author, social entrepreneur, environmentalist and world citizen. He is the world's most widely published author on housing, land and property rights themes, having written more than 250 books, articles and substantive reports on these issues. At the age of 25, he was already being described by leading human rights scholars as an international human rights pioneer. Over his almost 30-year human rights career, he has carried out human rights work in more than 80 countries. He hosts the only podcast dedicated to exploring all aspects of world citizenship and how to get there - Jointly Venturing.
"How do we manage this... How do we guarantee that everybody has their human rights met, and has a life of peace to look forward to? That we are–ultimately–all the same, sharing this planet as one people." - Scott Leckie
