Friends of the Margaret King School Society (FMKS) was organized October, 2007. Its main purpose is to create an appropriate community memorial and memorabilia collection that will stand as a tribute to the Margaret King School and its importance to the communities it served in the 1930s to the 1960s.
It is our hope that future generations will know that this is a very significant piece of Pugwash Junction’s heritage.

During the school year1928-29, students attending the one-roomed school next door, watched as the Margaret King School was being built. Brick by brick they witnessed it taking shape. January 1930, their classes began in the new school. Can you imagine what these students must have experienced as they entered the new building for the first time? It may have been like entering a palace! (read the description below). The official opening took placeJuly 1st, 1930, with about 600 people attending the special ceremonies. That day it was officially named The Margaret King School, honouring Mr. Eaton’s former teacher. She was a special guest of honour at the opening ceremonies. In its time, it was a magnificent school, well equipped and ready to provide enhanced educational opportunities for students of rural Pugwash Junction. The school was also open to high-school students from nearby communities: Pugwash River, Conns Mills, Hartford, Middleborough, Wallace Bay Wallace River and Wallace, some students arriving on the daily train.
It is our hope that future generations will know that this is a very significant piece of Pugwash Junction’s heritage.
