Cyrus Eaton addressed the National Press Club followed by a Q and A session. The link below is a Verbatim Transcript of that session. The introduction by Mr John Horner summarized Cyrus Eaton's accomplishment. The majority of the session focused on Russia. First Eaton described out it was through Rockefeller, Dr. Harper (first president of University of Chicago, and Sam Harper, who headed Russian Department at University of Chicago and who spent six months every year in Russia, that he became fascinated with Russia. He then described the feisty relationship between the US and Russia and the damage that John Dulles' action and words were doing. With great enthusiasm, Eaton praised the work ethic and achievements by Russian scientists, their farmers, and industrialists. He described his meeting with Khrushchev, who he claims is eager to visit the US and establish a friendly relationship with the US and who is not interested in trying to convert our country to this Communist principles. Eaton clearly stated that the COLD WAR is no solution and that our country should trade with Russia and China. He suggested President Eisenhower should visit Russia and should invite Khrushchev to the US. He stated that Khrushchev wants peace. He answered questions about their industry, their railroad, and other achievements. Through out the session, there was laughter and a positive atmosphere. (Transcript is 37 pages double spaced.)
