Dr. Bert Moore who was the Executive Secretary 2009-13 of the American Shorthorn Association, sent me a photo of the bull, Hickories Max who had won the 1968 Chicago International Livestock show.
The bull was shown by Cyrus Eaton's Acadia Farms.
The bull though was bred by my great uncle Donald James who ran The Hickories Shorthorn farm for Dr. Wm. A Taylor, Pardeeville Wisconsin. The dam though was from a cow that my other great uncle Spencer James raised under the family Neal James Estate farm name, Rosewood 215th
That cows dam was Rosewood 15th, and her dam was Hickories Rosewood 4th, so back to Uncle Don's breeding.
I remember the name Acadia in the Shorthorn breed, but didn't know/remember there was a connection to our family shorthorn heritage.
The photo shows my uncle Don, Cyrus Eaton, the judge John Shuman, Betty Royan Acadia Vice President, as well as Shorthorn International Lassie queen as well as the Ohio Lassie Queen, and the showman and his wife Mr. and Mrs. Truman Kingsley.
I wonder what has happened with any of the history of the Acadia Farms Shorthorn herd and the trophy's or banners that were won?
